Courtney’s Closet Children's Clothing began in 1992 as a result of frequent trips to the mall and area department stores to find nice clothing for my two young daughters, Angela and Courtney. Most of what was being offered by the kid's clothing manufacturers was poorly sewn imported garments geared toward making little girls look older than they are and, frankly, older than they should look. Modest, feminine styles have been replaced with bare bellies and hip-huggers. Made in America has been replaced with made anywhere but here.
As a result, I knew that if I wanted stylish, age appropriate, American made clothes for my children, I would have to create them myself. It wasn’t long before I found that girl's jumpers were the most versatile clothing in their wardrobe. These handmade jumpers could be worn plain in hot weather, with T-shirts in warm weather, and with turtlenecks and leggings in the winter. They are suitable for school, church, parties, or just to play in around the house. But most importantly, the girls just looked pretty in them. To accent the jumpers, I also began making matching hairbows and eventually handbags.
While wearing the dresses in public, my girls received lots of compliments from people who felt the same as I did. Much to my surprise, I began receiving requests for the handmade dresses and accessories from other people for their children, grandchildren, nieces, and friends.
My youngest daughter, Courtney really loved wearing the jumpers and would insist on getting the first sample of any new designs. It wasn’t long before her closet was full of jumpers. Thus the origin of the name “Courtney’s Closet”.
I began selling my creations at area craft shows and they were an immediate hit. It wasn’t long before we (my husband, our kids, and I) were traveling to shows as far west as Memphis, Tennessee and as far east as Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Over the years we have built a long list of repeat customers and a good many friends. As time went by, more and more customers were inquiring about a Courtney’s Closet Website. Well, this is it and we hope you find it both enjoyable and useful to order from.
Happy Shopping,
